Not even close. So long as it runs Mac OS X and not Windows, you
can't even make such a comparison. Alas, the general public may
see this much differently. I haven't even touched on the fact
that the average *low end* Mac still comes equipped with more cool
stuff (both hardware and associated free software) than a midrange
PC... folks just don't add all this stuff up when comparing.
I think this will help sales. It will give people confidence in
buying A Mac. All the powerpc is is just something IBM has created;
and at one time IBM was considered the enemy.
And in the end, CPUs are becoming more and more alike in many ways,
such that it almost doesn't matter at all what is at the center of
your machine. There's so much else to consider these days besides
just CPU that make a machine "nice" and make it "fast". I applaud
any (well, most) efforts to leverage commodity, high volume tech-
nologies, and Intel processors do tend to be that (never mind
regularly being the fastest kid on the block).
