I didn't have to give anyone hell, all seemed to work out well. I got my replacement, RAM specs are the same, except in the case of my 1.2 GHz, I had to buy a 512 chip to get to 768 megs, and in this case they only gave me a 256 meg chip. The new machine is 1.42 GHz, compared to the old one's 1.2, same size 60 gig HD, and this time Bluetooth is built in, whereas before I used a dongle. The new one has a superdrive, the old one had a combo drive. The new one has what is supposed to have a slightly faster graphics card. In all the normal, measurable ways the new one is better that the old one. Still, I didn't want to bring myself to give up the old one. At first glance they look the same, except this one has more capabilities. One you sit down at it, though, the real differences start to appear. Small ting, I know, but the "iBook G4" is slightly smaller and less bold than on the 1.2 GHz, and there are some minor differences throughout the case, little things you notice in owning a computer for a year and a half and using it everyday. The one thing that really catches my attention, though, is the keyboard. Aside from a few tiny visual differences, they look the same, but the feel is much much different. The keyboard on the 1.2 GHz was one of the deciding factors on whether I would get myself a iBook or Powerbook in the beginning. After trying it out, I decided that I liked the keyboard just fine on the 1.2 GHz, so I went with it. I was always happy and comfortable on that keyboard. The new one, though, is much different as far as how it handles. It feels clunky and clumsy. The keys feel somewhat unresponsive compared to the 1.2GHz. I thought that once I got the 1.2 GHz in and put this behind me I would stop stressing over the situation, but I find myself missing the older, slower, yet apparently almost identical iBook. In the end, though I came out ahead, instead of just transferring my applecare over, they gave me new applecare, resetting me for another 3 years. I'm sure this new iBook will grow on me, macs always do, but Ifeel a bit crazy for missing the old one.

Wow. Here in Norway the main rule is that you can demand a swap if the product is faulty, or try a repair if you want. If that takes more than a week, you can demand a machine for loan while waiting. if they fail to repair after two tries, you can cancel your purchase and have all the money back.

And after todays announcements on MacWorld Expo the iBooks are still PowerPC based. Anyway, I wouldn't worry about that, I'm sure the Rosetta thing will work well on the new Intel based machines too

Give'm hell!

You have no idea: one of those times I was without my iBook, it was
gone for an entire months while I waited for a new LCD. ...
