Here is an article that describes Filemaker being used to keep track
of a large group of students participating in after school activities.
The application is different than the one you describe, but it seems
like it could easily be adapted to what you want to do. I am
acquainted with the gentlemen who developed the solution.
In any case, this article will hopefully give you some ideas on what
can be done with Filemaker to create a solution that works for you.

Here's a longshot.
We are trying to find a way to create class lists quickly in an
arena scheduling
situation. Kids come up to a desk and sign up for a chosen class.
Currently we
do it with pencils.
Ideally, a kid would state the class he/she wants. The teacher would click on
the class, enter a three digit number and the kids name and other info would
appear on a line of a list below the class name. Later each class would be
printed out on seperate sheets.
Is there something existing in os X that would allow such a thing to be put
together?
