Have a 300MHz beige G3 tower (version 2.2) w/384 RAM running 10.2.8. Has a 10/100 Ethernet card installed and goes to a 10/100 switch.

Also have a new refurb 1.8MB G5 running 10.4.4 (1.25GB RAM) with Brother 8840D and Cannon S820 USB printers attached. Although the the beige sees the USB printers as rendezvous printers, it won't print to them. It generates a print job on the G3 that doesn't show up in the G5's print cue. It will print to the Brother if I attach the Ethernet (Cat 5) cable directly between the computers (bypass the switch).

I know the drivers are current and I have a fixed IP on the G5. I installed/uninstalled, reset, cleared cues, etc. until I was blue in the face - all with the same result.

Apple won't help - any ideas? Might trying the 10.4 - XPostFacto route on the G3 fix the printing problem, and is it a good bet that 10.4 will run on the beige?

Steve

PS - Shame I can't install the 10.4 that came with the G5 onto the G3.
