Tiger does not fix the 'Option key - start up to Startup Manager'
trick.
That ability is built into firmware and/or hardware.
A solution that works on beiges is to hold down the Option key as
they chime and they boot into 9, no Option and they boot into X
(provided X is set as the startup OS)
Don't know what happens with a B&W.
Also, are you using the control panel System Disk instead of Startup
Disk in System 9?
Startup Disk does not set the parameters correctly to start up X, in
some G3s.

Harrumph. Oh well. Another reason to jump to Tiger on this old
beast....multiple user accounts that actually work.

the B & W is not supported. Will installing Tiger fix this
