Hey all:

A regular list lurker here popping up with a weird one. My B&W G3 won't
boot to the startup manager when I hold down the option key when the machine
boots.

Machine is running OS 9.2.2 with 512MB RAM. Four total drives: two internal
hard drives on the motherboard IDE bus, two on a Sonnet Tempo ATA/66 PCI
card. Machine will boot from any drive when the drive is selected in the
Startup Disk control panel.

To be clear, I hold down the option key and power on the computer. No
startup manager appears; the machine boots to the hard drive selected in the
startup disk panel.

I did, at one point, attempt to install Ubuntu linux on a hard drive
attached to the Tempo ATA card. The install went smoothly, but the machine
refused to boot, so I did a low-level reformat of the drive and did a clean
install of OS 9.2.2.

I have reset the PRAM, booted to OF to reset the nvram, pulled the battery
and let it sit, pulled out the RAM sticks and let the machine rest
overnight, etc. But still no startup manager when I hold down the option
key during the boot process. I use a Apple Extended Keyboard II ADB
keyboard regularly, but it wont' work with an Apple-branded USB keyboard,
either.

Any suggestions? I'm just looking for a quick way to boot to a separate
hard drive when I turn on the machine--I have some edutainment titles for my
kids which don't like all the extras in my regular boot volume's System
Folder.

Thanks in advance,
