Much as I probably shouldn't I rely on you great guys for taking pity on
an "old guy", me 75, I do.
Have received wonderful advice and thanks to all of you.

I am not very tech savvy but was able to remove the HD from my G3/300
mini tower. Put it in my checked luggage and flew back east on vacation
with it. While there, a friend partitioned it for me so I could install
OS X v10.2 Jaguar.

Got detailed instructions on removal of the HD from the list. Now have a
new problem. My CD tray has stopped working. It opens OK but when I try
to install any software, nothing happens.
No spinning noise. No icon on desk top, just dead. Also no Jaguar, I
operate on 9.2.

>From the above I have concluded that I need to replace the CD unit. Now,
I also have another Mac, a mini tower a G3/266. My questions are:
1) Can I remove the CD unit from one and install it in the other?
2) If I can, is it a fairly straight forward job?
3) Need a referral to a site with detailed instructions how to do the
job.

Any help will be appreciated,

Richard in San Diego

Thanks,
