Now I am completely confused. I, too, prefer to sub-divide my apps into function folders. I don't even know what you folks are talking about when you refer to "the right side of the dock" - I am presuming you mean the right side of the desktop with the dock at the bottom.
So far I have placed my dock to the left because I prefer to use the extra length on my screen to increase window sizes on the net so I see full screens without the need to scroll. I have a 19" monitor and I still find that I am always scrolling anyway. Now, in the past I had used hierarchical menus and placed my apps folder (with subfolders - communications, browsers, graphics, games, etc -) so I just scrolled to my preference that way. It sounds now that there is some new function in OS X that replicates this from a folder directly - but it involves the right mouse button. I have just asked a question about reprogramming the keys of my mouse and now I'm completely confused that I will be losing these new functions if I do so.
