Gum gets brittle when frozen. Pull the drive and put the case in the  
freezer. Pull it from the freezer and immediately prod the the gum.  
May take take a couple of freezing cycles to get the gum to separate  
and fall out. Dry under a fan in low humidity until all signs of  
condensation are gone.
