Thanks Kris, The thought of chipsets did pass briefly through my mind but since the USB works I decided to just go with the USB. Some day I would rather be all F/W 800 , Gig Enet and Fiber. But time and money rules this house. Grrr. It has also turned out serendipitously that the Printer I had selected to replace my clogged up Epson C82 can be made to print directly on printable CD/DVD's, so I am also pursuing that option. After having already bought the LightScribe burner. Grrr again.
