This is just an update on this never-ending problem, at least thus
far. And thus far some progress, as regards identifying a problem. I
have entered a lot of commands in OF, including printenv, setenv, I
wish I know how to use the last one. Anyway, I resort to disconnecting
the HD cable. And the results from that are that I can boot into
Firewire mode; the yellow firewire symbol came up, but on my Pismo, I
got the message that the connected HD can't be read. That's right,
because I'd disconnected the HD.
When I reconnected the HD, I can't boot into OF.
With the HD connected and pressing the Option Key, I get an arrow
that's circular and one that points towards your right hand. At the
top left of the screen a black and white symbol that looks like a
watch. Eventually it changes to the mouse pointer. The spinning hand
in this clock then gets stuck at the same spot each time and nothing
happens.
With the HD not connected and pressing the Option Key at start up. The
spinning clock does not freeze. It completes its cycles and then
changes to the mouse pointer.
I have read that if Open Firmware password is set, it won't boot into
Single User Mode or Verbose. Is there a way to check if the password
is set. I've done everything to change it physically. Change-increase-
RAM, and Command Option P and R at least 12 times. I just want to be
certain that password is not set on it. Is there an Open Firmware
command that will tell?
Based on what I've said; where do we go from here?
Thanks all,
Mykel
