I haven't looked at this computer yet--it's one I set up for a friend
some months ago.

She tells me one of her cats walked across the keyboard, and since
then, the computer is speaking everything, but it does it by spelling
out things. (It's saying "c-a-t" not saying "cat".) I e-mailed her
to check in system preferences/Speech that everything is unchecked.
(It is.)

It is not any one program--but everything that's open and the
Finder. Also, she says there's a heavy "box" around things that are
being read.

I'll probably go look at it some time this week, but I'm wondering if
anyone has any ideas. It sounds to me like she got some 3rd party
utility on her machine.

It's a G4 AGP running 10.4.11.

TIA

Joe
