You used to see them on TV all the time underneath CRT monitors.  If 
there was a bank of monitors there would be one under each monitor, 
which is quite silly in practice.  I think the TV types liked having all 
the lights showing up.

The advent of LCD monitors has done away with the power control stand.


I have a couple of these beasts set up for turning on computers without 
soft start and for other equipment.  I use them where I have a monitor 
on a T switch to connect multiple computers to one monitor.
