IMO it is something to be avoided if possible.

Assuming you choose not to avoid this how about going to the
electronics store and getting some copper shielding to place between
them? Or the same from a local metals dealer?

You might not notice data loss for a long time with what you propose.
But in the future you will wonder why those mp3s have dropouts and
videos have snow and other picture loss.
