Mu metal would help, copper won't.  A UPS puts out a fair amount of 
magnetic field but it's electrical noise is about the same as the 
computer's power supply.  Copper will have essentially ZERO effect on 
magnetic fields.

SNOW?  No, damage to the disk would appear as bad files that stop playback.
