I did the exact upgrade yesterday on an eMac. It was running 10.2.8 and the owner wanted to run some HP printer software that required at least 10.3.8. I upgraded the machine with some 10.3.2 install disks, and the updated to 10.3.9 from the Apple website. It took a while, and I forgot to not let the upgrade do the kitchen sink full of foreign language support, but all seems well.
