Then the problem is something that's not included in safe mode.  
Perhaps a third party driver, pref pane, extension or a program thats'  
being started automatically, or a corrupted font.

This KB article tells you what the difference is between regular and  
safe boot.

Apple used to have a more detailed article, but if it works in safe  
mode and not regularly, this is where the problem lies.
