Hiya ~ Not an expert but my first try might be to temporarily remove all the extraneous drivers from the system to give it less to look for. Maybe it'll find the one that's there for the HP printer?
Other thing would be to de-install all the HP software, maybe there's a conflict occurring there between Apple's stuff and HP's stuff. As always you're trying to find out where the stoppage is (you've done this) and then try to eliminate variables until you find the problem. Good luck!
