For what it's worth... I have had my G4 Gigabit 400 since January of 2001 and it is never shut off. (Well only during severe thunderstorm threats and vacations). The PRAM battery is the original and no problems when waking the machine or booting. I suppose that I should look into a new PRAM battery or maybe better yet, an upgrade to a faster machine though...
