You're correct that your wireless connection is more of a bottleneck  
than your HD connection if you have USB 2.0, Firewire, or ethernet.  
The only slower HD would be a USB 1 HD.

In real world application 802.11a is limited to mid-20 Mbps thru-put  
range.
802.11g is about mid-50 Mbps, and 802.11n is around 100 Mbps. Those  
higher #'s you see advertised are maximum rates for short bursts in  
optimum conditions not achievable in real world usage.
