The non working ram is most likely high density, and Macs require low density ram. There are also some pcs that can not use high density. From what I have gathered, Apple choose to implement only a subset of the pc133 ram specs, and that is for low density ram. Whether it was cheaper to do this, or low density was "higher quality" ram at the time or Apple's firmware writers were lazy, who knows.
