ROFLMAO. I RTFA and the clicked through to Seagates site (this isn't Slashdot, I am allowed to do that) and I think this is a marketing move more than a quality move. Looking at the matrix, bare drives, sold with no cables, boxes, documentation get the 3 year warrantee. This is for both the Barracuda 7200 and Momentus 7200 and 5400s. This are normally the drives sold at the low end of the price point. The full internal kits with a Seagate box, manuals, cables, and maybe a disk utility CD, still get the full 5 year. I think it is a way to add additional "value" to the full retail boxed drive over the bare drives sold cheaper. Just my thoughts.
