Folks, thanks for your replies.

Yes, I did go into System Preferences and correct where OS9 is
located. And
yes, I did add OS9 drivers to the new SATA drive. The funny thing is
that if I
click on an OS9 app, it loads and runs. It just won't load at boot
like it used to,
and I get this funny message when I shut down. Phase of the moon?
Wolfbane pollen concentration? Or some other setting? I could easily
enough
add a PATA drive back in; I was trying to completely unload the
internal
controller to speed up the machine per a recommendation from another
list.
I may yet end up with a faster processor.
