You want to match it's dimensions and power ratings. The bolt pattern size is usually good enough, especially for this application. The thickness is important but in this situation isn't critical. You need to match the voltage and current. Fans come in a variety of flowrates and this needs to match the original fairly closely. Some fans list the rated flowrate in CFM but not all. You're more likely to find the current rating listed.
