I doubt us mere mortals could afford an "airtight container" that is truly airtight - that maintains the *perfect* inert (nitrogen) atmosphere. And as someone else commented, a vacuum would dry out / destroy the plastics. Really, about the best you can do is what the "industry" recommends...
