I have one of these (linked below) for IDE drives, and with moderate use, have had no problems with it. Currently have a 750GB Seagate in it for backup purposes: backup off my home network as a FW drive off my Quicksilver. It looks like they have FW800 ones now instead of 400? It's power supply is external as Ralph pointed out: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEFW911UPLOB/ The all newer Aluminum ones look like they may dissipate heat well. The Elite Pro ones mentioned above are covered with clear plastic, which I have questioned as to their heat release ability ... but they seem to work ok with moderate use. My 2 cents worth ... I have booted off the one I bought ... worked well. Just tested the Cold Boot-OPT, and the external drive showed up as one of the options, and it booted fine off my QS.
