The Keyspan looks like a good unit, but it won't necessarily cost less
than a modem.

I've been getting G4 towers in the Twin cities for under $100. A
couple of examples: a G4 AGP (400 MHz, 256 MB RAM) with a KDS 15" LCD
monitor for $100, and a 466 MHz Digital Audio with 768 MB (of PC100!)
for about $70.
