A cheap solution would be to use it exterally.  You could browse for a
firewire/usb enclosure for sata for maybe $40 and it would be bootable
and fast.  USB 2 only is cheaper (Newegg has some for under $20,)  USB
is actually bootable on the MacBook, but I don't know about G4s.

I know you want internal, but there are advantages to an external
drive.   Might be  worth a look.
