I'm late to this thread, but I'd thought I'd ask: Why isn't "1 Pass", Writing Zeroes, sufficient to wipe a disk clean? Isn't that "7 Passes", a DoD (Department of Defense-iveness) government hoopla / hangup / thingy? Something to give government workers something else useless to do? (I use to "work" for the General Accounting Office).
