This is a 1.8-GHz Power Mac G5 DP?
<http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/powermac_g5/stats/powermac_g5_1.8_dp.html>

What is "macx"?

What OS is it running? Up to date?

Exact bus, card, and drive configuration?

What make/model drives were they?

Neither drives nor file systems fail quietly. The details are all in
your system log. Look there - what are the exact errors thrown. Be
sure to go back far enough to find the original errors.

In what way was the directory structure corrupted?

How were they recovered?

Can't give you any real answers without specifics.
