The utility UniNorthASICChecker will tell you if an AGP G4 has a new
enough motherboard to take a dual processor. I'm pretty sure that
anything newer than an AGP can take a dual or single CPU, as long as
it's compatible with that machine. There is supposed to be a simple
hack to allow a Quicksilver CPU to run on a Digital Audio G4 - it's a
matter of getting voltage to a particular pin (or pins). I think it
was discussed here in this group before in detail.
