It's trying to get its own database from Apple, to check if you need 
anything.  That database can be VERY large - it includes every 
package Apple is offering.

Re-set the schedule (turn it on then turn it off) then initiate a 
manual check.  Let it run until finished.  Hopefully it won't get 
pushy again.
