I have an old B&W G3 that I am in the process of upgrading to os X. i want to make an emachine for simple internet functions and hate to see a great computer sitting idle!
I got around the lack of DVD by using the disk drive from my G5 to Erase/Install OS X 10.4 from a retail disk. The install takes a long time, but does complete. When it is done and tried to restart on the computer HD it goes through the first run introduction (music and "welcome" stuff) and I can get through about 3 screens of the first run info: 1. Select Language, 2. Choose not to "Transfer info via Firewire" (I think?) and 3. Select country. Sometimes it locks up on #2 and sometimes I make it to #3, but it can't get past 3. I've tried flashing PRAM, starting from the DVD and running DIsk Utility to fix permissions, and fix disk. Nothing seems to work. I've even tried comman Apple-Q to bypass registering, but it says you must complete information and then gives the choice of "shut down" or "continue." Any thougts on this resurrection would be appreciated! --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
