On the other hand, neither is it necessarily good business on Apple's part. This isn't just my opinion, this is factual, based on Apple's actions. Apple executives have said, again and again and again, that they, as a company, have no interest in competing at the bottom of the market. From their POV as executives of the company, this is a damned wise decision: Of all the top PC manufacturers, Apple's the one NOT doing huge layoffs and/or posting losses. Dell staked their business model on claiming the low end of the market.
