Urgent request for G4 / OS 9 password help

At the request of the women using the computer and making their mailing list
and newsletter, we did not install any X systems. We kept the OS 9 because
ClarisWorks will run and it will fill their needs just fine.

They have spent several months working on the various lists and making it work
out as is needed, BUT I received a call telling me the computer requires a
password to start up. I have no real experience with using the system 9
password built in and have generally ignored it.

Apparently a boy and his friend they were watching knows more than us and so he
found the password and entered something we do not know what was and he can not
remember what was entered, so now we are in a fix.

No back ups were done in some time and any anyway the loss in time and effort
since then would be great. Yes, I know, they should have, but they did not!
Besides, even if we had backups, we can't get in at all!

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If you would prefer to reply off list,
please make the subject start with --> PRIVATE -
