I just went through banging my head on the wall trying to remember the 
username and password I had on a IIci running NetBSD.  It's been 7 years 
since I fired it up.  If finally thought of using finger to verify the 
account name.  I'd been using the right password all along and I finally 
remembered that one letter was uppercase.
