Let the new mobo sit at room temp for about an hour to acclimate. 
This ensures that you're not going to power something that's got a 
bit of condensation on it.

Before unplugging, Ground Thyself to the machine.  Then unplug, pull 
the battery, etc.

Over the weekend??!!! huh?  The big caps are sealed up in the power 
supply.  After that's disconnected, the mobo itself is dead after 
about 30 secs.

Simplify.  New mobo, some memory, keyboard, mouse, monitor, no xtra 
pci cards, no HD.  Boot - make sure that much BONGS and gets to the 
flashing question mark (seeking a boot volume).  Then add things, one 
or two items at a time.  That way if something goes awry you know 
where to look.

Only reinstall the OS if you feel what you have is corrupted in some 
way.  I doubt it is.
