There's definitely "a way" because the Hackintosh install discs are  
constantly updated in this manner. I don't know the method, but it can  
be done. They also make "patches" for their .iso discs that can update  
the image file from the patch so that it's "current" and a new  
installer DVD can be burned without needing to download a bunch of GB  
of data just to update a few MB of files.

I know Slipy was used by Hackintosh groups for Tiger OS 10.4 discs,  
and it seems to launch without crashing on my Leopard 10.5.6 PPC Mac,  
so perhaps it "works" but was simply abandoned by the developer with  
10.3.9 was current? Might as well give it a try.
