That is version 9, and the MS page shows that version has not been  
updated since 2006.

When MS killed development of WMP for Mac, they gave the people that  
are producing FlipforMac the rights to improve and distribute the WMP  
codecs.

So, yes, while you can download WMP 9 from Apple or MS, it has not  
been updated for a while. The system requirements state a min of  
10.1.5 with 10.2 recommended.

FlipforMac will get you the most up to date codecs that are AVAILABLE  
for the Mac, which is still behind the Win counterparts.

I have Perian, FlipForMac and DivX installed along with VLC and  
mPlayer ( I almost never use the QuickTime player). Between all  
those, I have been able to play most all video formats except for a  
very few WMP files and an old intel format (Indeo 4 and 5, iirc) that  
has not been updated since I was on dialup at 1200 baud on my  
PowerBook 100.
