If you look on Xbench or Geekbench archives, you'll see than Leopard 10.5 is between 20 and 25 percent slower than Tiger 10.4 on all PPC (G4 & G5) Macs, whereas on Intel Macs, it's just the opposite, Leopard is about 10-15% faster. This is because of the way the code is compiled and also the fact that they're now optimizing for Intel and not wasting time on old PPC. Leopard is the end of the line for PPC, but in my opinion there aren't any extras in Leopard worth a 20% performance hit. I have Tiger on my 1.58 GHz G4 Mini and Leopard on my dual 2.3 GHz G5, so I'm using both now. If your video cards support Core Image you might consider Leopard, but if not, Tiger is for certain the better choice. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
