Except that the update has been known to make the drive completely 
unreadable.


I'll buy from Seagate again but not soon.  When there's a large pool of 
manufacturers I'll scratch them off my list (I'd say forever but that's 
a long time).  With HD manufacturers the list is too small, I'd 
eventually run out.
