I've had some trouble with my 22" Apple display that's hooked up to two KVM's on an ADC port and a DVI port. Generally, it works well. One thing I do have to watch out for is to be sure that at least one display is on and connected at boot. Depending on your KVM this may or may not be a problem for you. If you do boot the G4 with the VGA display connected to the Linux PC, when you switch back to the G4 you may get no video. The simple fix for this is to go to System Preferences>Display and click on "Detect Displays", which should bring your VGA desktop extension back.
