I've always gone by the rule that if they have exactly the same connectors then they are/should be getting exactly the same power. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA#Power_supply If the 2.5" drives have different power requirements than the 3.5" then I would think that is something which is handled internal to the drive.
