after rebooting from a unix file system check fsck -fy done in
singleuser mode , which reports volume appears to be ok, it runs fine
for a while, and the aforementioned problems slowly seem to develop over the
course of around 24 hrs
......this box runs 24/7 hosting 2 websites; could the crons that run in the
middle of the night have
something to do with this?...i'm just fishing for answers to the problem here.
as for hd failure..there are 2 drives installed; one has 3,partitions, each
with a system installed,
as well as drive genius 2 which i use regularly to defrag drives which are
used for digital
audio recording and editing and for video recording and editing as well. the
other drive is a data only drive in 2 partitions.
while both are not new, they have been working well for me in the da box, so
i'm inclined to think the
switch from the da box to the qs box is at the heart of the matter. i'd just
go back, but for a problem with
the ethernet port on the da box....it works fine connecting to the broadband
modem from my isp, but will not show up on lan ports of
maxpower router. router is good, works with other macs, and the qs box works
with the router. da ethernet problem is daunting, as
everything works but the ethernet connection to my router, which is needed for
wireless internet to an imac elsewhere in the building.
any ideas?
thanks

These could be symptoms of a dying hard drive. If you have a second
hard drive you might want to clone your system to it then try booting
from it and seeing if your problems disappear.
