"Upgrade" from 10.3.9 to 10.4 Installation from disk went fine, until restart--grey Apple screen for several minutes, then grey screen with "prohibitory sign" where the apple logo should be. Tried again, this time doing "archive and install" option after removing old SCSI PCI card, same thing. Reset PRAM. Still cannot break thru the prohibitory sign.
I read on installation notes that "3rd party video cards" could be problematic, and to contact manufacturer. Unfortunately, can't get any help on the ATI Radeon 8500 for Mac that I have installed--the support site seems to be non-functioning. The system install notes also say the video card may have to be removed to install OS X. This totally confuses me--since 1) i've been using OS X 10.3.9 for years with the card with no problem, and 2) if i were to remove it, I couldn't connect my Cinema Display, and therefore, wouldn't be able to see the installation. I have 1.5 GB RAM, and processor upgrade to 1.4 GHZ. Any help would be so much appreciated! --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
