Well, let's be frank, Scribus is no Quark. :-) It really depends on  
how deep a Quark user your wife is, but Scribus is quite a usable page  
layout program. I've not done any thing horridly complex with it, but  
it's much better than Appleworks.

You might try iWork; Pages is more a decent low-end page layout  
program than a word processor, really; but when I've used it, it's  
been more reminiscent of Pagemaker or Ready Set Go than Quark. (hows  
THAT for a blastfromthepast?)
