Incorrect, AppleTalk is still here in OS X 10.5.  OS X 10.4 does not 
support AppleTalk over IP.  That is a rather obscure protocol long ago 
abandoned.

I believe you are confusing AppleTalk with AppleShare (AppleShare Filing 
Protocol).  Apple DID drop AppleShare over AppleTalk.
