Connecting a regular phone line to the built-in modem....in this mode  
the modem is acting as a fax machine, not a network interface, and is  
entirely separate from the ethernet cable connecting the computer to  
the DSL 'modem'.  I hate that the cable and phone companies  
promulgated the misnomer 'modem' to refer to what is actually a  
router, it makes thing like this confusing as heck.
