Apple is wrong. There is no support for classic in 10.5.

Do you need to boot into 9, or just run it?

Your system 9 disk is your classic. You will probably need to boot off
the OS 9 CD to install it.

If you do not need to boot into OS9, then you can install it either on
your main disk or partition or a secondary one. Some people say you
should put 9 on a separate partition or drive, but it is not
necessary. On my Da running 10.4.11 I have 9 on the same drive as 10.4
with no problems.

If you need to boot into 9, you may have issues with disk drivers. OSX
does not install OS 9 disk drivers by default. If you did not install
OS 9 Drivers when you formatted your disk, you will need to reformat
it to include the OS 9 drivers. Or you could get a smaller drive to
install a bootable 9 system on and make sure you install OS 9 drivers
on that one.
