Get the adapters. They are small and cheap and even work both ways, i.e. you can also attach an old PATA drive to a SATA cable. They fit nicely in the original spaces in my MDD. When I start up in OS9 I can't see or access those SATA drives though, that's because they are too big for OS9 i.e. 1.5TB. Success!
